Phone repair: what to know
What happens before, during and after a repair assessment.
What information should I provide?
Share the manufacturer, exact model, the symptoms, how long the problem has happened and any relevant damage or liquid exposure. Never share passwords or security PINs through online forms.
Can the shop diagnose a problem remotely?
A written description can help triage the issue, but a confirmed diagnosis or quote may require physical inspection.
How long does a repair take?
Turnaround depends on diagnosis, parts availability, queue and complexity. Ask for a specific estimate after the device is assessed.
Should I back up my device?
Yes, whenever possible. Back up important data, remove sensitive information where practical and check the shop’s handling procedures. Some repairs or software operations may affect stored data.
Will my device retain water resistance?
Opening and repairing a device can affect seals and resistance ratings. Ask the repairer whether any rating or seal performance can be assured following the repair.
